The German international was a late addition to the SGP field after American great Greg Hancock retired from the sport in February.
As first reserve, Smolinski got the call-up and will be keen to add to the 2014 New Zealand SGP victory he achieved on his full-time World Championship debut in Auckland.
The 2018 World Longtrack champion suffered a broken hip and nerve damage in a training accident in Leipzig in May this year, but hopes to take his place on the sport’s biggest stage regularly for the first time in six years.
