SpeedwayOfNations.com is your guide to the sides going for Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations glory in Russia. Today, we feature Great Britain.

Last year’s silver medallists head to Togliatti on the back of their greatest season in the World Championships since the turn of the millennium.

As well as Tai Woffinden’s individual title win in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, the Lions went within four laps of Monster Energy SON gold at last season’s inaugural Finals in Wroclaw.

Despite topping the scorechart over two days and 42 heats, Russian duo Artem Laguta and Emil Sayfutdinov split GB pair Tai Woffinden and Robert Lambert in the Grand Final to break Lions’ hearts, meaning the wait for their first world title since 1989 goes on.

This weekend’s opportunity may not prove easy with Woffinden ruled out of the trip to Russia as he recovers from a fractured TH4 vertebra and a broken shoulder blade suffered in Poland early last month.

Former SGP star Craig Cook steps up as captain and heads to Togliatti on the back of a brilliant night there in the 2017 GP Challenge, which saw him finish fourth in book his place in SGP 2018.

The King’s Lynn and Glasgow rider has started this year in strong form, along with another Stars racer – Robert Lambert.

GB’s under-21 man is guaranteed at least one ride, but could end up taking many more after a season which has seen him show promise as SGP first reserve, reaching the SGP semi-finals in Warsaw and Krsko.

The Lions trio is completed by 2007 British SGP winner Chris Harris – a man whose battling qualities with the Union Jack on his chest are famous.

Harris’ never-say-die style has made him the stuff of YouTube legend, with his unforgettable rundown of Jason Doyle to send Poole into the 2018 SGB Premiership Grand Final going viral online. He’s currently thrilling fans at Ipswich and Somerset in the UK.

The Lions may be without their talisman Woffinden, but they certainly won’t be travelling 2,500 miles to make up the numbers.
