MONSTER ENERGY SON FINAL | EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Here's everything you need to know ahead of the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Manchester on Saturday and Sunday.

15 / 10 / 2021, 11:00

We’re just two days away from crowning the 2021 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations world champion in Manchester.

Here’s everything you need to know for Saturday and Sunday’s Final.

WHEN?

Don’t get caught out by the early start time – racing at the National Speedway Stadium (postcode M12 4WB) gets underway at 4pm UK time (17:00 CET) on both Saturday and Sunday.

THE RACING

Great Britain battle it out against Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Latvia and France with all seven countries meeting each other over 21 heats of action on Saturday and another 21 on Sunday.

In Monster Energy SON speedway, teams score four points for winning a race, with three for second, two for third and no points for taking fourth place, being disqualified or failing to finish.

The scoring system is designed to reward team riding. For example if Polish star Bartosz Zmarzlik won a heat, but Aussie duo Jason Doyle and Max Fricke finished second and third, the Roos would take a 5-4 heat advantage.

Avoiding last places is crucial to success in the Monster Energy SON. Stay out of fourth spot, and your team will always score a heat advantage!

The scores over two days are combined with the top-scoring team after 42 heats qualifying automatically for Sunday’s Grand Final.

The second and third-placed countries face off in the Grand Final Qualifier. The winners join the top scorers in the Grand Final, where they will race for the Monster Energy SON world title.

Every country has an under-21 rider in their team, who must feature in at least one of their races on both days of the Final.

If they have not been nominated for a ride by the time of the country's final heat of the day, they automatically replace the rider in red or white.

If two countries are tied on points after 21 heats, the nation that scored a heat advantage in their head-to-head race will be placed higher.

In the event three or more teams finish level on points, the countries are awarded a bonus point for each heat where they finished first and second or second and third. The team with the most bonus points is placed higher.

Should that fail to resolve the tie, the countback system is used, with the team that achieved the most race wins placed highest. If they are still level, seconds, thirds and then fourth places are taken into account, with finishing fourth considered better than being disqualified or failing to finish.

In the very unlikely event the teams are still deadlocked, the country with the highest FIM ranking will be placed highest.

TICKETS

Tickets for both days of Britain’s biggest speedway event of 2021 are now sold out.

Fans who purchased tickets to the cancelled 2020 Monster Energy SON Final in Manchester will still be able to use these to access the stadium.

All print at home tickets that have not yet been printed will be automatically updated.

TRAVEL

With Manchester City also in home Premier League action at 3pm on Saturday, fans are strongly advised to allow plenty of time to make their journey to the National Speedway Stadium.

Due to ongoing construction work near and around the stadium, car parking in the area is extremely limited. Limited car parking is available at St Peter’s School, priced at £10 to cover both days, and this will need to be pre-booked online. Visit: https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/club-shop.

There are 150 parking spaces available, plus 50 disabled bays – available to Blue Badge holders only.

The car park opens at 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday and no other parking will be available at the stadium.

We highly recommend that you travel to the stadium by public transport. There is adequate parking nearer the city centre and there are a number of bus routes from Manchester Piccadilly Station that stop very near to the National Speedway Stadium. Taxis and Uber cars are also available.

While there is on-street parking near to the stadium, local organisers do not recommend this and any parking is at the owner’s risk.

Fans are asked to be courteous to the stadium’s residential neighbours when parking vehicles and not block driveways or access routes, as vehicles may receive a parking fine or be removed and impounded.

Plan your journey and make it to Manchester in plenty of time to enjoy the final speedway world championship action of 2021!
