Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final draw hands Great Britain two Aussie finales.
19 / 09 / 2021, 15:00
The draw for the 2021 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Manchester on October 16 and 17 has been revealed, and Great Britain face old adversaries Australia in their last heat on both days.
The Lions and the Roos have one of the oldest rivalries in speedway, and the FIM draw has pitted them against each other in race 18 on Day One and heat 20 on Day Two.
Both races fall at the business end of the meetings and could decide whether the two countries take their places in the Grand Final or Grand Final Qualifier as they bid for world-title gold.
GB open Final Day 1 by appearing in heat one against Latvia, who will be featuring in their first world team final at the National Speedway Stadium, before Poland get started against Australia in race two.
France face a tough test against Sweden in heat three as they also make their first appearance in a world team final, before Denmark open their campaign against the Brits in race four.
Great Britain face a tough opening heat on Day 2, when they meet Poland in race three, with Sweden starting the night against Latvia in heat one and Australia meeting France in race two. Denmark must wait until heat four to open their night against Latvia.
Sweden and Denmark’s medal hopes could hinge on an all-Scandinavian affair in heat 19, which pits the two countries together in the last of their regular heats before the Grand Final Qualifier and Grand Final.
The Swedes face a particularly tough finish to Day 2 as they meet GB in heat 12 and their penultimate race sees them tackle Poland in heat 16.
