Swedish racer Freddie Lindgren hopes to roar into top form for this weekend’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Finals in Togliatti.

Fast Freddie led his country to Russia with an 18-point maximum as they won Race Off 1 in Landshut on May 4.

I feel we work very well together in the pits and on the track. I hope we can do some damage.

He was very ably assisted by the in-form Peter Ljung, with the selfless Vastervik rider handing the world No.3 an inside start in each of their six rides to give Lindgren the best chance of getting race wins.

That kind of teamwork could give Sweden a shot of landing their first world team title since they won the 2015 Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup at Vojens.

Lindgren is currently sixth in the individual World Championship – just five points off top spot. He hints that he’s yet to hit his best form this year and would love to do it at the Anatoly Stepanov Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

He said: “I think we have a decent chance. We are going to go there and give everything we have. For myself, I am going to try and regroup and find some better form and come the last part of the season, hopefully I will be at my best.

“I am going to Russia with Peter, who has been in good form this year. I feel we work very well together in the pits and on the track. I hope we can do some damage.

“I’ll still have the GP in the back of my mind. It’s the main goal for me this year, but I am always proud to represent Sweden.”
