Slovenian skipper Matej Zagar admits he’s seeking some extra track action as he prepares for Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Race Off 1 in Landshut tonight.
The Ljubljana-born ace will be vital to his country’s chances as they tackle Germany, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine and the Czech Republic in a bid to earn one of three places at the Finals in Togliatti on July 20 and 21.
Zagar is also preparing for the opening round of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series in Warsaw on May 18.
You need more racing, to be honest. At the top level, you need to be on the bike at least two times a week.
While he has been scoring solidly for PGE Ekstraliga side Czestochowa, he’s keen to add some more league dates to his diary to ensure he’s in tip-top form.
While Zagar politely declined to be drawn on his destination, Dackarna would seem likely with Greg Hancock currently caring for wife Jennie as she battles breast cancer, while his Malilla team mate Maciej Janowski now also faces a layoff with shoulder ligament damage.
Zagar said: “I’m not that busy. I just have Poland and GPs at the moment. I might come back into Sweden, but we’ll see. I am just negotiating now. I can’t say with which team.

Zagar admits his Slovenian side would have benefitted from some laps in Landshut after practice was cancelled.
But after leading the side within four laps of Finals qualification in Teterow last year, he’s ready to see where tonight’s action takes his team.
He said: “Here we are again in Germany. It’s all possible! It’s a shame we don’t have practice, but we’ll see what happens. We’re in the first heat, so hopefully the track will be fine and it will allow some great racing.”
